New Year New Me (and You)!

This New Year’s Eve as I reflect on the tumultuous year that was 2019 I am determined that 2020 is finally the year that it all comes together.

A new year is the opportunity for a new beginning, a time to make things right, to focus on the future and all that we can be.

What does that future look like to you? What could it look like if you were to make the changes you know you need to make?

What will happen if you do make those changes? What won’t happen if you do make those changes?

What will happen if you don’t make those changes? What won’t happen if you don’t make those changes?

Take a quiet moment now and close your eyes; contemplate the likely answers to those questions fully… do you like what you see?

Focus on the positive changes first… on all the amazing events and memories that you could be a part of. Nice eh? Do you really want to miss the opportunity to miss out on that?

Now focus on the negatives… on what will or won’t happen if you do not make those changes… on all those amazing moments in the future that sadly you will miss out on… just for the sake of a ‘crutch’ that is simply a coping mechanism, a substitute for real living.

It may well be numbing the emotional pain short term but it is literally stealing your potential along with potentially depriving your loved ones of your presence in all those beautiful future moments.

So my question to you this NYE is are you committed, truly committed to living those future moments you just visualised or just simply interested? How important are those moments to you? To your loved ones? What are you willing to do right now on the eve of a new year, a new decade? Are you ready to leave the crutch in the past and start fresh, 100% committed to living life to your full potential?

Think again to those happy moments 5, 10, even 20 years from now you just visualised… being there depends on the decisions you make today; remember all we ever have is now. Some people think that means we may as well party, be drunk, get merry. But actually, what it means is the only power we have is in this moment; you can keep saying “I’ll do it tomorrow” but of course that day never comes because when it does it is now today and we kid ourselves again. All we ever have is here and now to decide a different fate.

“There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” —Ken Blanchard, Coauthor of The One Minute Manager
