I see it every day yet it never ceases to amaze me how few business owners do not have an exit strategy.
Actually many owners don’t have any real strategy let alone one to exit the business!
How can this be? Surely it would be a priority, especially given the number of business owners now approaching retirement?
I’m sure deep down that they know how important it is yet due to lack of structure, lack of a clear vision & strategy for the business they are dragged time and again into day to day business constantly putting fires out.
Surely there is a better way they ask? And there is, but it will mean doing things differently i.e. not doing what you’ve always done and expecting a different outcome.
Start by working out exactly where you and your business are right now; there are plenty of online tools to help you with this these days. If you are unsure give me a call and I’ll happily point you in the right direction.
Then work out where you want to get to e.g. sell the business in three years for $xyz
Now work out the strategies to achieve your objective; this becomes the total focus for the next three years. Set achievable quarterly goals, make sure everyone on the team understands the “Game” and measure the results.
